Android Market, Gmail, YouTube, Spotify & More Running on Kindle Fire

by Jeff Benjamin on November 17, 2011

Yesterday I posted a video how-to that showed how to root the Kindle Fire, but I stopped right after the root was complete.

Hence, some of you may be wondering what the benefits of rooting are. There are loads of benefits, and perhaps some downsides as well.

The biggest benefit in my opinion is to be able to run apps that normally won’t run on a stock Kindle Fire. Apps like Gmail, Spotify, and more are now running on my rooted Kindle Fire.

Here is the video proof:

I’ll be back with a full tutorial that shows how you can get Android Market on Kindle Fire, how to get Gmail on Kindle Fire, and more.

On the downside, Amazon Instant Video no longer works, but I’m sure I’ll find a fix for that soon.

Let me know what you think of my new and improved Amazon tablet in the comments!

You don’t need to root the Kindle Fire to sideload and install Go Launcher EX, or GMail, or Google Maps, or anything EXCEPT the Android Marketplace. You can even install other markets like SlideME or GetJar without rooting. I was doing all that before I rooted.

The major benefit to rooting is that you can install the Android Marketplace app and use it.
